BEING PERSONAL WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

-the Holy Spirit helps us and be with us
-the Holy Spirit will be with us whatever we are going through
-Jesus cannot be present physically with the disciples
-and He said do not be afraid cos the Holy Spirit will be with them
-overcomer doesn't loose his peace and joy
-able to go through sufferings and hardship without losing our peace and joy
-not about always being the winner
there's a difference between knowing and experiential
not knowing the holy spirit through someone else.. but knowing Him personally

how to experience the Holy Spirit personally
1. be filled with the Holy Spirit

it's the same as the Holy Spirit.. it's not how much we are being prayed for, but how much the Holy Spirit in us have in control and influence over our life
-when we have the awareness, we will be more cautious on our actions cos we are cautious to not grieve the Holy Spirit
-if we are not aware of the Holy Spirit, what we can do is ask Him to come...He will be more than happy to come and touch us
believe and experience, both are equally important

-the king showed no respect to the Word of God
-when we show disrespect to the Word of God, we are putting a defense against God speaking to us
we don't remember what we eat few days ago, we don't rmb what was preached in church
-however, we still eat cos it sustain us... the same, attending church sustain our spiritual growth
when theres no awareness, there's no influence and there will be no change in our life
2. experience Him personally
Jesus does not shows favoritism.. but it's John felt Jesus' love
Jesus loves all the same
-without experience with the Holy Spirit, everything is just a theory
-our hearts and minds have to be constantly touched by the holy Spirit
boldness is when they go through sufferings and persecution

THE BEATITUDES

-focus on the love and holiness
-what moves a person to lasting change is love
-God wants an obedience from the heart.. not cos of rules or laws
-in matt 5, its not a list of things to do, but the being.. how a son and daughter of the heavenly father looks like
-beatitudes = extremely happy, a heavenly joy out of this world
8 attitudes that brings heavenly joy
-poor in spirit = need to depend fully on God
-God is not against possessions and wealth, but this are not the things tt will bring us nearer to God
-mourn = deep grieve over our own sins
-our sins is affecting our fellowship with God
-repentance will bring us supreme happiness
-meekness is not weakness
-meekness is self-control when we are irritated, provoked
-it takes a lot of inner strength, the Holy Spirit
-just live a righteous life and we will be happy
-the Holy Spirit wants to empty us and fill us with Him... many times, we are too full of ourselves to be filled
characteristics of beatitudes
1. contrast
2. countercultural.. its the direct opposite of the value of the world
3. beauty of Jesus
merciful
-we cannot have the Holy Spirit and not be a forgiving person
pure in heart
peacemakers
-Jesus shed His blood to reconcile us to God
-there should be a heart of seeing ppl being reconciled, go ard promoting peace and reconciliation and not to create confusion and division
persecuted because of righteousness
-Simon Peter was upset when Jesus is talking abt cavalry.. he wanted Christ without the cross
finally Peter understands...
if we follows Jesus, there will be troubles

-the first thing we should do is not to be defensive when being insulted cos of Christ
-we should rejoice cos its a privilege cos we were counted worthy to suffer for Christ
-an overcomer is when nothing can bring us down

-by the finish work of Christ, we too can overcome the 3 adversaries

pic
-he who overcomes is not he who believes in Jesus but he who has victory over life adversaries to fulfill his divine purpose

   -not all who believe obey!

rev 2 9
-the Smynra Church suffered hardships
-nobody desires to suffer
-even Jesus wants the Father to spare Him from the cross if its the Father's will
-as Jesus' followers, we must be willing to endure suffering if by doing so helps to advance His kingdom

-we dont see what God sees

-there is no honor in suffering, in doing evil
-most of us suffer cos of the fall
-cos of sin, all the creation been cursed (curses of sin) --- natural disasters, dickness, wars, conflicts
   -Jesus saved us!

pic
God uses suffering to change and strengthen us and fulfill His divine purpose through His glory

4. pic
however, we cant jump into conclusion tt everytime ppl suffer only cos they have sinned or been disobedient
-suffering is not always a result of sin

5. pic
Jesus suffered although He is without sin

2 tim
-a Christian life is not a road of wealth and ease
-it often involves deep sorrows, deprivation, misunderstanding, opposition, even if we have done nothing wrong

rev 2 9
-the Church of Smynra is materially poor but spiritually rich
-they are poor as their properties were confiscated simply cos they were Christians

hebrews 10 34
they put their hope in heaven

-God meets our needs, not our greed
-thoough the Christians in Smynra wasnt rich, they were nv in lack for the works of God

qn 4
-why ppl persecute Christians?
-the gospel humbles the sinners too much
-they hate to admit their guilt, and refusing to admit the need if a savior

pic when we born against
-we voluntarily live by the morals of the world
-the way the world treated Jesus will be the same they treat Christians
-it is the world crucified Him
-by living according to the gospel, our lifestyle will be different
-the light of us will shine and expose the darkness of the world

matt 5 16
Jesus is he true light of the world but crucified

rev 2 9
rev 2 10
knowing Jesus as savior bring great blessings, but there is a high price to pay to be identified with Him

pic
because Satan hates God and we are the apple of God's eye, we became Satan's object of hatred
-because Satan is in the world and we are living in it, we will have sufferings and hardships

rev 2 10
1. temptation
   -=desire for someone/something tt is unlawful/immoral/unwise
-its Satan tt tempt, God dont tempt
-Satan tempt so tt we may forsake our loyalty fo Christ
2. testimony
-=procedure to establish performance and reliability
