BOOK OF REVELATION L7

-theres alot of church fathers, but theres also apostolic fathers
-to be an apostolic father, need to personally know one of the 12 apostles
papias personally follows Jesus
millennium is after the resurrection of the dead...time of rapture
4 main eschatological
-how we understand them will affect how we live our life and faith
1. amillennialism
-no reign of Jesus now on earth and even after His 2nd coming
-believe that Satan is alr bounded
-theres no rapture and no 1st resurrection
   -Christians alr raptured
-teach symbolic interpretation prophecies
   -similar to idealism, preterism
-official view of roman catholic church
-condemns any literal 1000 year millennium
-dont believe in great tribulation and rapture
2. postmillennialism
-they believe that the church have the power to create the kingdom of God on earth without Jesus physically being here
-we are all living in millennium alr
-holds very optimistic view of the earth
-theres no need for rapture.. cos the world will become better...eventually, the whole world will love Jesus
-similar view as amillennialism
-similar to idealism and preterism
   -also read the bible symbolically
-dont believe in great tribulation and rapture
-Jesus is reigning through the church
-believe that all that belongs to heaven can and must happen in this present age
-in Christ, no Christian shall be sick, experience failure
-win every battle, rich, famous, powerful
-post millennialism may become presumptuous, proud
-cultural mandate is to share God's love... is not being the king
3. premillennialism
-thousand years = long period of time (not 1000 years)
-Satan is active today cos his days are shorter and shorter
-the world is more evil and lawless
-then great tribulation
-thereafter, Jesus will come (2nd coming) --- rapture
   -only pre-millennialism believes there's a rapture
-at Jesus' 2nd coming, dead Christians will resurrect and living raptured (1st resurrection) - resurrection of the body
-at the end of millennium, Jesus will set His permanent reign on new heaven and new earth
-idealism and preterism cant be premillennialism
-all futurism believes in premillennialism
-futurism and preterism is total opposite
-how we read the book of revelation
-millennium is in Rev 20
-the way we read the bible will determine our world view and how we live our life each day
-almost in 4 verses is a prophetic verse
in a most common sense way
what it says is what it says
-prophies are not intended to be so difficult

danger of allegorical teaching -allows the teacher to assign whatever meaning he/she likes to according to his/her imagination
-breed confusion
-teacher's own subjective interpretation according to text
-we doubt our own ability to understand the bible
-lead us to depend greatly on teachers cos they claim to have special revelation to decipher meaning for ppl
-every prophecy is literal
-example of fulfilled prophecy
-Jesus was born of a virgin
   -Jesus was born in Bethlehem
-Jesus came to Jerusalem sitting on a donkey
-the bible contains symbols, and the bible interprets itself
-example: 7 stars, 7 lampstands
-Jesus wants us to know tt the symbols have its literal meaning
      -dont have to guess
example: dragon
-the bible is a book that explains itself!
-Jesus fulfilled Isiah 61:1 but not verse 2 yet... only at His 2nd coming
-prophetic word may have dual fulfillment

-rapture had occurred, Jesus captured the Antichrist and false prophet and cast them into the lake of fire (hell)

millennium
-plain reading: John saw a millennium where Jesus will reign on earth
-its for 1000 years
-plain reading:
-1st resurrection of the Christians then 1000 years later the resurrection of the dead
-view of Amillennialism, Postmillennialism, idealism, Preterism: Rev20 is happening now...
-but "live again"... how could the wicked have a similar spiritual resurrection when they were not converted/water baptized
-tts why cant be resurrection of the soul but resurrection of the physical body
1st death is what everyone will have.. and the 2nd death is eternal death in hell
-at the end of millennium, Satan is released and will have a battle with God and His saints
-ppl are still deceived by Satan even if they had seen Jesus with their own ways and lived through without the influence of Satan for so long
-God gives human freewill freedom to choose!
-even after all this, we still can have the choice to be for God or against God

-replacement theology is the view tt God has divorced Himself from Israel tt the Jewish nation has been replaced by the church as His chosen ppl
-this is the time when Satan will be cast into hell
-hell was not planned for man but for Satan
-and those who follow him must share in his destiny
-then followed by the last judgement then the eternal state of new heaven and new earth

Justin Martyr wrote this cos the temple at Jerusalem was destroyed even today

4. dispensationalism
-extreme form of premillennialism

1. danger of different plans of salvation
-God's salvation in the old testament and new testament...
-God's plan for all the ages has never change
salvation is always by grace, through faith

God revealed Himself as God by grace

2. danger of Antinomianism
-the law is Holy!
-dispensation can lead to lawlessness if one is not careful
3. danger of separating Jewish and Gentile believers
-sharply distinguish Israel and the church
Israel is God's eternal earthly people and the church is God's eternal heavenly people

-to the dispensationalist, there are 2 different gospels
-by right, there is only 1 gospel !
4. danger of speculative secret rapture
-dispensationalist believes tt there is the secret rapture then the gospel be preached to the Jews during the great tribulation and they will in turn preach the gospel to the whole world.. as a result the antichrist will severely persecute them
-if this is correct, then the beast should be called Anti-Jesus, not Anti-Christ
   -theres a 3rd coming...visibly
-resurrect the dead saints, then millennium
-millennium is reserved for the Jews...the church has no part at all
*we all in the same Christ, there should not be separate rapture
what we believe concerning them will affect how we live our life, how we prioritize our future, how we respond in time of stress, and hardship, how we serve in the church
the people of Judah once again remember the goodness of David
